The Borno Police Command says no fewer than 721 suspects engaged in various crimes were arrested across the state in 2024.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Mohammed Lawan, made this known on Tuesday in Maiduguri while briefing newsmen on achievements of the command within the year.
Lawan said 177 of the suspects were arrested for Sexual and Gender Based Violence with 35 of them taken to court while 28 others are under investigation.
“In cases of culpable homicide, 65 cases were reported, 140 suspects arrested, 41 suspects were charged to court while 24 suspects’ case files have been sent to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice,” the police chief said.
According to him, 34 suspects were arrested for kidnapping with nine so far charged to court.
Lawal also said that the command recorded six incidents of terrorism with seven suspects being arrested within the year.
He said that the command successfully cracked several cases and brought to book some of the criminals involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, car theft, and culpable homicide.
The police chief said that the command was working toward achieving the restructuring goals of the state in area of security in line with the Borno government’s 10 years strategic plans. (NAN)
