The Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture says the highly anticipated 2024 Boat Regatta will hold Dec. 21.
Mrs Toke Benson-Awoyinka, the state’s Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.
Benson-Awoyinka said the event, which was initially scheduled for the Easter period, was postponed to ensure optimal participation and provide an elevated experience for all attendees.
She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to making the Lagos Boat Regatta a spectacular celebration of the state’s rich aquatic heritage.
“The postponement has given us the opportunity to enhance the programme and deliver a bigger, better, and more inclusive event.
“The Lagos boat regatta promises to be an unforgettable occasion for Lagosians and visitors alike.
“It will showcase the vibrant aquatic life and cultural diversity of Lagos while reinforcing the state’s position as a premier tourism destination in Africa,” she said.
Benson-Awoyinka noted that the year’s event will focus on engaging the local fishing communities, spotlighting their cultural contributions and exploring ways the Regatta can provide economic benefits to them.
She said that the boat regatta would serve as a platform to promote the scenic beaches and the thriving hospitality sector around Lagos’ waters.
“Participants from the five IBILE divisions of Lagos state will compete in various categories, with exciting prizes up for grabs.
“Private boat owners will have the chance to display their creativity, adding a distinct Lagos flair to the event.
“The ministry invites stakeholders, residents and visitors to celebrate the state’s aquatic heritage in grand style,” she said. (NAN)
