By  Oboh Linus
The Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), has urged Nigerians, to shun ongoing protests against the administration of President Bola Tinubu and embrace dialogue.
Alhaji Aminu Maifata, National President of ALGON and Chairman, Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, made the appeal during a press conference on Thursday in Lafia.
Maifata said that his call for dialogue is in the interest of peace and development of the country, adding that in the past most protests had turned violent.
The ALGON boss, who appealed for calm and patience among Nigerians, said that the Tinubu administration had initiated policies and programmes aimed at improving the economy.
“We are aware of the numerous policies and programmes of the Tinubu’s administration and the ones initiated by the governors with a view to charting a new course and attracting economic prosperity for the citizenry.
”The recent financial autonomy granted to the 774  Local Government Areas, championed by this administration through the judgment of the Supreme Court, is a step toward transforming the country.
”This will restore the dignity, capacity and ability of the local government areas to carry out their constitutional responsibilities by providing basic and necessary services to the people at the grassroots.
“As chairmen of local government areas, we understand the frustration and grievances that have led to the call for protest, however, we believe that dialogue and collaboration will yield more positive results.
“So, let’s embrace dialogue and work together toward a more prosperous and equitable Nigeria, where local government areas are truly empowered to serve their communities,”he appealed.
Maifata assured Nigerians that ALGON would continue to drive the process for the realisation of a better and prosperous Nigeria. (NAN)
