The House of Representatives has directed the Ministry of Aviation to conduct a comprehensive audit of airport personnel and contractors handling airport projects.
These resolutions followed the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance by Rep. Jesse Onuakalusi (Lagos-LP) during plenary in Abuja on Tuesday
Presenting the motion, Onuakalusi harped on the need to enhance accountability and competence in airports.
He said there was need to maintain high standards of safety, security, and efficiency at the nation’s airports.
Adopting the motion, the House called for an audit of all contractors engaged in specialised areas in Nigerian airports in the last one year.
The House called for the assessment of their knowledge, competency, and ability to perform their duties effectively.
It also urged the Ministry to conduct an Audit of Technical systems and projects and review the current state of RADAR systems, radio communications among others.
The House said the audit shall include an assessment of required skills, qualifications, and adherence to professional standards.
The report was expected back from the House Committee on Aviation within 14 days. (NAN)
