A former Chairman of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Dr Wale Adegbite, has commended the Federal Government for suspending the expatriate employment levy it earlier introduced.
Adegbite gave the commendation in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Ota, Ogun.
NAN reports that the federal government had suspended the expatriate employment levy (EEL) it introduced on February 28, a week after President Bola Tinubu launched it.
The EEL was introduced by the federal government to close wage gaps between expatriates and the Nigerian labour force.
“It is a welcome development as Manufacturers have been inundated with increasing costs of production.
“However, the suspension of this policy would surely reduce the challenges confronting manufacturers daily,” he said.
According to him, most expatriates in Nigeria were in the country because of skills they possess which Nigerians do not have.
The former MAN Chairman appealed to the Federal government to further make emphatic efforts to create a more enabling environment for manufacturers to survive and thrive. (NAN)
