The UN Inter Agency Group on Youth has called for meaningful dialogues by the youth on climate related issues as a strategy to facilitate achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) relating to green economy.
This is contained in an official invitation to Nigerian youths by the UN Information Centre (UNIC), Abuja, to a discussion on green economy.
The event scheduled to hold at 9.30 a.m. on Friday in Abuja, is aimed at eequipping young people with skills for green economy.
According to the centre, the world is embarking on a transition to green economy.
“The shift towards an environmentally-sustainable and climate-friendly world is critical not only for responding to the global climate crisis but also for achieving SDGs.
“A successful transition towards a greener world will depend on the development of green skills in the population.
“While green skills are relevant for people of all ages, they have heightened importance for younger people, who can contribute to the green transition for a longer period of time.
“To empower Nigerian youths for a sustainable future, the UN Inter Agency Group on Youth is organizing a discussion to equip young people with skills for the green economy so they can find decent jobs and make the world a better,” UNIC said. (NAN)
