CAF Confederation Cup final: Orlando Pirates, RS Berkane expected in Uyo Wednesday

Paul Bassey, General Coordinator of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2021/2022 CAF Confederation Cup final match, on Tuesday said both teams for the game would arrive on Wednesday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Orlando Pirates of South Africa and RSB Berkane of Morocco are scheduled to meet in the match slated for Uyo on Friday.

Bassey, who is also the Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom on Sports, to newsmen in Uyo that the match would kick off at 8 p.m.

“The LOC has established contact with the camps of both teams and I can confirm that the teams will be arriving in Uyo tomorrow (Wednesday).

“Going by CAF directive, I can confirm to you that kick-off for the match is at 8 p.m. and we at the LOC are perfectly poised to make it a memorable occasion all of Africa will be proud of,” he said.

NAN reports that the match is to be played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Orlando Pirates, who are based in Soweto, are seeking a second success in African football, after winning the CAF Champions League in 1995.

RS Berkane, who are the defending champions of the Confederation Cup, will be making a third appearance in the final when proceedings get underway in Uyo on Friday.

The match will be the Soweto Giants’ first-ever encounter with “The Orange Boys”, with both teams seeking their second major continental title.

Meanwhile, a tripartite security meeting involving CAF, the LOC and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will hold on Tuesday at the venue of the match.(NAN)
