Ado-Ekiti, Jan. 6, 2022 (NAN) The police, on Thursday, arraigned two accused persons before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a gold necklace.
The defendants, Marvelous Omolere (30) female and Oluwadare Martins (18) male, of unknown addresses, are facing a one count charge of stealing.
The police prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Jan. 2 at about 9.24 p.m. at Delight Hotel and Suite, Ilawe Road in Ado-Ekiti.
Okunade alleged that the defendants stole the gold necklace valued at N713,000 belonging to one Oso Babayemo.
He said the offence contravened Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The prosecutor asked the court for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and present his witnesses.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
Counsel to the first and second defendants, Messrs Martins Adefisayo and Mr Emmanuel Adedeji, respectively urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abdulhamid Lawal, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N100,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Feb. 2 for hearing. (NAN)
