The Ishk Tolaram Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has begun registering unemployed Nigerian youths, aged between 18 and 35, for vocational skills training.

Mr Madhurya Manohar, the foundation’s Communications Manager, said in a statement on Monday, in Lagos, that the training would enable the youths earn an income and be self-reliant.

He said youths in Lagos can apply for the vocational skills training at Ishk Skills Hub, on a 90 per cent scholarship.

“Students can choose to train in one of the following, with 90 per cent scholarship from Ishk Skills Hub: Fashion, carpentry and furniture making, plumbing and pipefitting, masonry and tiling.

“To ensure quality training, in line with industry standards, Ishk Skills has partnered with accredited vocational training centres across Lagos.

“Once students complete their vocational training, they will be placed on a three-month internship, to gain on-the-job experience in their chosen skill,’’ Manohar said.

He said that all students would also be trained on critical soft skills, such as personal effectiveness, leadership and character development, employability and work readiness, as well as entrepreneurship, to further prepare them for productive employment.

“Upon graduation, students become a part of Ishk Skills Hub’s alumni network and can continue to access various resources for professional development and employment referrals.

“To apply, the candidates must be between the ages of 18 and 35, based in or around Lagos, and holders of a Senior School Certificate Examination certificate, an Ordinary National Diploma or a National Certificate in Education ,’’ the manager said.
