In a reaction to EndSARS protest, the Ndigboamaka Progressive Association, the umbrella body of major markets in Lagos has condemned in totality the ongoing protests in some parts of the country. This position was contained in a press release made available by the Secretary-General of Ndigboamaka Progressive Association, Hon. Comrade Chinedu Ukatu, in Lagos recently.
Hon. Chinedu Ukatu said that Ndigboamaka Progressive Association is in total support of genuine EndSARS protest and against police brutality which some of their members have fallen victims on several occasions.
According to the press statement, Ndigboamaka and its members have consistently and entirely disassociated itself from the wanton destruction of lives and properties in whatever disguise. The association, press release noted, viewed the ongoing carnage with grave concern and advises the aggrieved youths whom they believed have been brainwashed to perpetuate the destruction to desist from it forthwith as more harm is done than good.
He further asked the perpetrators, “If you destroy all the properties today, what will you leave behind for the upcoming youths”? The group, most importantly viewed the attacks on the business interest of other Nigerians in Lagos, irrespective of the tribe as an act of brigandage that can generate to tribal disharmony. The group further urged Nigerians, especially youths to give peace a chance while exercising restrain especially in this present democratic setting.
The entire Ndigboamaka Progressive Association and its members strongly sympathized with the Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu, and all those who lost their lives and properties to this unfortunate incident.
“ While praying for God`s `protection of the land, we humbly call on the Governor of Lagos State to reach out to all interest groups as a matter of urgency in Lagos for effective and positive dialogue on how to resolve the burning issue of the youths. Above all, all members of our group are requested to go about their normal business in peace while always abiding with the rules and regulations of the land,” the statement declared.
