The maiden National Broadband Conference earlier scheduled to hold on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at the Muson Centre, Onikan Lagos, has been postponed, the organisers said in a statement. The statement issued in Lagos by the organisers, News Express Media Group, said that the postponement became inevitable “in a bid to ensure an optimally successful event as preparations had been hampered by unexpected developments, including the recent spate of public holidays in Nigeria.”
“We regret the inconveniences to be caused by this postponement and promise to unveil the new conference date soon,” News Express Publisher and CEO Isaac Umunna said in the statement
He said that when it is eventually held, the conference, theme of the conference as “Broadband – Catalyst for Nigeria’s Economic Recovery”, would feature distinguished ICT experts who dissect the challenges facing the Broadband sub-sector of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry with a view to proffering solutions to move the industry forward.
“The conference shall be discussing the next National Broadband Plan while charting fresh courses for its full implementation, with other pressing industry issues,” Umunna said He described the conference as “a one-day but impactful event that shall bring together major stakeholders in the Nigerian sector to discuss and chart fresh courses and for the full implementation of the next National Broadband Plan, among other pressing industry issues.”
The statement described the National Broadband Conference as part of efforts by News Express towards ensuring that Nigeria remains alert on the internet of things highway – the first being the acclaimed Nigerian Online Merit Award (NiOMA) which debuted on July 13, 2018 at Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja Lagos.
