NCC, lottery agency sign pact to end Ponzi schemes

The Director-General, National Lottery Regulatory Commission, Mr Lanre Gbajabiamila, said on Friday that his agency had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Communications Commission to flush out illegal lottery operators, especially those involved in Ponzi schemes from the country.

He stated this in Abuja at the closing ceremony of a two-day specialised training programme organised for members of staff of the NLRC. Gbajabiamila explained that his agency was committed to enforcing the laws guiding lottery in the country and would ensure that the operators complied with the regulations. He said, “We still carried out enforcement last week and we will continue to do that. We are actually after the online operators because many of them are operating illegally.

“We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Communications Commission to knock out any illegal operator that is not registered with the NLRC.

“The NCC has been mandated to shut the illegal operators down on our behalf. The Federal Government is losing billions of naira to the illegal operators.” Punch
