Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested drug smugglers in Delhi and busted an international narcotics cartel. Two Afghans and a Nigerian man were arrested in Saket on Tuesday. The arrest was made near Max Hospital in Saket. Five kg of heroin and $4,200 (Rs 3,00,000 roughly) were seized from the three accused. The heroin seized has an international market value of Rs 25 crore.
Esmatullah (40), Khalilullah (22) and Victor Osondu (37) are names of the arrested drug smugglers. Cases under appropriate sections have been registered against them. Acting on specific information, the Special Cell laid a trap near the exit gate of Max Hospital at around 1 am on September 18.
Esmatullah and Khalilullah were seen loitering in the area. Soon thereafter, Osondu met the two near the exit gate and handed over $4,200 in exchange of the packet containing the heroin. The police officials quickly moved in and arrested all of them.
INTERROGATION: The three nabbed then quickly spilt the beans after being interrogated. The Afghans revealed that they have been smuggling heroin from Afghanistan to Delhi and surrounding areas. They also revealed that they have been travelling to India on medical visa and smuggling in the heroin by swallowing it using capsules. Both Esmatullah and Khalilullah were living in Hauz Rani, New Delhi.
Osondu is one of several Nigerian nationals living in Delhi who hustle drugs. He stayed in Vikas Puri in West Delhi illegally after his visa expired. He had come to India in 2014 on a six-month visa and did not renew it after it had expired. The Special Cell has been on a drive to arrest drug smugglers and bust drug rackets. It has seized 110 kg of high-grade heroin in the past one year. India Today
