British Airways launched two new routes from London on 27 March, beginning services from Gatwick (LGW) to Las Vegas (LAS) and from Heathrow (LHR) to Almeria (LEI). The first flight from Gatwick to Las Vegas marks a return to a sector that the airline last operated in S16. BA will serve the 8,430-kilometre transatlantic route three times weekly using its fleet of 777-200s. It faces direct competition from Virgin Atlantic Airways which provides daily flights on the airport pair. BA already serves Las Vegas from Heathrow, with OAG schedules showing that the carrier provides 10 weekly flights. BA will offer twice-weekly (Tuesdays and Saturdays) flights on the 1,632-kilometre link between Heathrow and Almeria. It will use A320s on the airport pair and faces no direct competition, although it should be noted that there is indirect competition from LCCs easyJet and Ryanair, with both offering flights to Almeria from Gatwick and Stansted respectively.
