Telecommunications regulatory authority (NCC), is yet to be communicated on Etisalat brand name change.
NCC, yesterday, said it was not aware of the change of name by Etisalat because the telco had yet to officially inform the regulator about it.
“We have not received any official communication from Etisalat on change of name. We take the news of change of name as rumour for now until we are informed,” Tony Ojobo, NCC’s spokesman told Daily Trust yesterday.
Mr. Ojobo, who is the Director of Public Affairs at NCC, also said Nigerians, especially subscribers of Etisalat, shouldn’t panic over the telco’s debt crisis as they wouldn’t lose anything. “No subscriber should exercise any fear; nothing will happen to their Etisalat lines…Nigerians should, therefore, disregard rumours about the change of name,” he said.
Unconfirmed reports, Thursday, said Etisalat Nigeria had adopted 9Mobile as a new brand name after the agreement on usage of the Etisalat brand was terminated by the UAE-based Etisalat Group. (Daily Trust)
