KIA Motors, Korea International Corporation Agency (KOICA) and Kogi State are to partner on reviving Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) in the state.
The partnership follows a meeting between Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Bello Yahaya, KOICA Country Director/Regional Representative, Sook Hyun Park, and KIA (Dana Motors Limited) Vice President, Olu Tikolo, on a possible cooperation for a 3Ks (KOICA- KOGI- KIA) project.
The tripartite agreement highlights that KIA Motors will provide and share new technologies of the industry with the students of the ‘Nigeria-Korea Friendship Institute of Vocational and Advanced Technology (NKFI)’ in Lokoja, while KOICA would coordinate with the state government for the project’s initiation and commencement.
In 2015, KOICA completed and handed over a $3.5m Vocational Training Centre (NKFI) to the Kogi State government. The NKFI is designed to be a ‘Centre of Excellence’ which will attract technical students from all over the region. The school offers trainings in four fields: Welding and Fabrication, Automobile Engineering, Electronical Engineering and Information Technology. (Dailytrust)
