Porting activities among telecommunications service providers declined by 8,248 in April, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said.
The “Incoming and Outgoing Porting Activities of Mobile Network Operators” report obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lagos showed that subscribers porting within the networks stood at 33,773 in April, as against the 42,021 recorded in March.
It said that out of the 33,773 porting activities in April; 16,938 were “incoming porting activities” while 16,835 were “outgoing porting activities.”
The report revealed that on the outgoing table, 5,702 subscribers moved from Airtel Nigeria to other networks through Mobile Number Portability (MNP).
NAN reports that those that left Airtel’s network reduced by 1,384 as against the 7,086 customers that dropped the network in March.
It said that 4,274 customers moved from Globacom Nigeria; showing a decrease of 1,758 subscribers, as against 6,032 that left the service provider in March.
Also, 4,922 subscribers moved from MTN Nigeria in April, which revealed that a decrease of 997 customers left the network, as against 5,919 that left in March.
It also showed that 1,937 customers of Etisalat Nigeria ported to other networks within the same period, giving a decrease of 196 that left, when compared with 2,133 users who deserted in March.
However, in the incoming table, Etisalat led by an additional 12,087 customers on its network in April.
Airtel Nigeria came second on the gainers’ list, with 2,400 subscribers and 1,506 subscribers moving to MTN Nigeria, while Globacom Nigeria got 945 customers.
NAN reports that the exercise was flagged off on April 22, 2013, by the NCC with the aim of deepening competition in the industry. (NAN)
