Petroleum pipeline leakages expose fake remediation contract awards

The petroleum products leakages in the sprawling Baruwa community of Lagos state coming from a long stretch of pipeline operated by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, is providing a conduit pipe for fallacious contracts awards from various government agencies.

While the community with estimated population of about 765,000 people is experiencing untold hardship orchestrated by massive pollution, several millions of naira has been voted for a repeated environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the areas impacted by the leakages.

However, the Baale of the community Alh Khalid Baruwa expressed disappointment that they are not carried along by government even when the issue at stake deeply concerns them. On his part, the Baale of Baruwa lamented the spurious contracts awards within a short period which he said has not produced any result. Leadership
