N30trn: Manufacturers respond to Senate

The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) has said the Comptroller General of Nigerian Customs Service, Col. Hammed Ali (rtd) has confirmed that there is no missing N30trillion as claimed by the Senate Committee on Customs.

The senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff and Maritime Transport,   had  giving an order to arrest the chief executive officer of 30 companies alleged to have been involved in the loss of revenue believed to be N30trillion in the maritime sector, for  refusing  to honor in person, the invitation of its Joint Committee.

The MAN president, Frank Udemba Jacobs who address a press conference in Lagos, said:” I have engaged the Comptroller General of Customs and he said as far as he knows, there are no such leakages.

“If they (senate committee) have been unable to get their information from the customs, why will they border us, it shows a failure of leadership. The customs as far as I know said nothing is missing.”

He said MAN’s findings showed that most of the CEOs were not in the country during the time of the senate meeting, which informs the deployment of very senior and competent officials from their respective organisation. (Daily Trust)
