NAICOM advocates reinvention of insurance professional body

Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission, NAICOM, Mohammed Kari, has called on the leadership of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) to reinvent the professional body and update its curriculum so as to adopt contemporary best practices for the overall benefit of the profession.

Kari who stated this at the investiture ceremony of Mrs. Funmi Babington-Ashaye as the 48th President of the CIIN in Lagos said that there is obvious need for a re-awakening to ensure trained professionals are continually retrained and equipped with prevailing skills and knowledge for optimal performance in line with international best practice.

Kari who was represented by Deputy Commissioner, Technical, Mr. Sunday Thomas, said, “The Commission would continue to support the institute to ensure that insurance professionals are regularly updated to enable them align with current global trends. I will implore our brand new president to treat these issues as priority in her agenda. These steps when taken will certainly engender respect and credibility for the Institute and the insurance industry.

“The current development in the country obviously calls for our collaborative effort to reposition the profession and rebrand the Institute. With the benefit of hindsight, it is apparent that no arm of the industry can do it standing alone. The achievements of the CIIN over the years could not have been possible without the active support and participation of all arms of the industry”.
